Stasis Mono is a modular monospaced typeface created in 1995, built entirely on a strict 5×5 grid. Each character is constructed from verticals, horizontals, and — for the first time in my early work — a few carefully allowed diagonals. Influenced by Steve Pickton’s music and the low-resolution experiments of Wim Crouwel, the typeface embraces constraint as method. It rejects curves, flourishes, and typographic convention in favour of a brutalist logic. The result is raw, reductive, and intentionally awkward — more like code than type.
This release includes a range of alternate characters originally designed as part of the concept. Though Stasis Mono is now 30 years old, this is its first public release. It remains a proud artifact of early digital experimentation: modular, mechanical, and still refusing to play by the rules.
The typeface contains just one case — lowercase only — along with digits (0–9). It does not include an extensive set of additional glyphs. Please note: this is a digital product. No physical item will be shipped.
